Completed: August 21, 2023Evergy's Emporia Service Center was designed with the employees at heart. Innovative mechanical systems provide comfort, safety and efficiency for the people who service, operate and manage trucks and vehicles in Evergy’s fleet. The facility includes a 24,077 sq. ft. truck bay, 4,144 sq. ft. fleet shop, 4,123 sq. ft. sub-station shop, 5,459 sq. ft. parts/materials/tools warehouse, and 16,435 sq. ft. of office/storage/support space.
The truck bay, the shops and warehouse are all served with hydronic radiant heat from piping below the flooring slabs. This highly efficient, electric-powered system provides consistently comfortable temperatures during cold seasons. In hotter months, destratification fans automatically circulate the air from ceiling to floor, maintaining balanced temperatures. Automatic sensors in the truck bay and fleet shop detect dangerous fume levels and activate safety exhaust systems.
In the office areas, 13 VAV boxes and two mini splits maintain zoned comfort and humidity control. Touchless faucets and high-efficiency bathroom fixtures serve the needs of all employees, as well as showers for those with dirtier jobs.
